Coming this summer… the history of Exeter in bricks

Whilst our touring exhibitions continue to travel around the world, sometimes we’re asked to do something a little more special. This one has been in the works since 2019!

Delayed from 2020 due to a certain virus that you might have heard of, Brick by Brick has been developed especially for the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter. Within the exhibition, you’ll be able to chart the history of Exeter through nine special commissions. Here’s a sneak peak!

Our story starts out in the Jurassic period, when dinosaurs ruled not just the earth - but also the sea!

Moving forwards in time, Romans settle in the UK, bringing their customs with them.

Medieval Exeter castle was built in the aftermath of 1066 to keep rebels in control!

Tudor Exeter brought a famous building to the city, ‘The house that moved’. Not that it would move for a very long time yet!

In the 18th Century, Exeter Quayside became increasingly busy with trade from far and wide!

The RAMM Museum itself was built by the Victorians, as the name suggests!

Exeter was hit hard during World War II, changing the face of the city.

Bringing us up to date, St Sidwells point was completed only a few years ago!

And into the future… what might Exeter look like?

I might be a little biased, but I adore all of these models. They look even better in person! With the extra time the COVID pandemic gave us, we’ve been able to add so much detail to them all. Kirsten (who build many of these models) used her fantastic research skills to work out exactly what was needed.
