Brick City opens in Guernsey
I have a running joke with my friends that I’m collecting ferries. Not the actual ships, but the routes. For one year it seemed as if I was on a ferry every other week! As another good friend says though if you will live on an island….!
Anyway, last week Teresa and I took another ferry trip, this time to the Channel Island of Guernsey, to install Brick City. After a drive from Edinburgh to Poole, we ferried both vans over to the island to install the exhibition.
As well as being our first foray into the Channel Islands, there were also a couple of other firsts for this exhibition. The St Pancras model has been spruced up and for the first time in Europe, it is now sporting all new barriers and interpretation, explaining the history of the station.
Guernsey also marks the first time that Brick City has been accompanied by the Digital Companion. You can access details on all of our models by scanning the QR code, or tapping your device against it. I’ve even recorded audio guides for all the models and some cheesy voice-overs.
If you’ve ever been interested in what a ‘norma'l’ week looks like for us, then you’re in luck! We time-lapsed the journey and install all the way through, which you can view below. If you live locally, you might have also seen little versions of Teresa and I as well - as BBC Channel Islands reduced us to the size of mini figs to feature in our own favourite models!
