Newsletter - February 2022

The snowdrops and crocuses are poking their heads up - it must be February already! We have a host of projects to share with you, so let’s jump right in.

Making a client’s wish come to life! (behind the scenes)

If you tried to get in touch with the team over the last quarter of 2021, you might have had a tough time as we were all a little busy….

Over the course of a few months, we delivered one of our most complicated builds for some time. It would be large, detailed and for a client a very long way away. In fact, we’d never meet or even talk to the client. This is the story of how we built Paimon, from the game Genshin Impact.

We’ve written up the whole process with loads of pics and videos on our blog - you can get a full breakdown of all the technical details!

Contagious Magazine

Sometimes we're approached with a request that isn't so much about the build - it's more about the photography of the final result. When we were asked to create a magazine cover we knew it would be the case this time!

After a quick chat with the team at Contagious, we understood their needs for this particular build. It would have to be bold, bright and colourful - taking their logo in a new (but still LEGO-y) direction. Not only would they need a front cover, but also a back cover and the two would have to work seamlessly together.

You can read the full account of what we built on our blog here and see Contagious’ own take on it on their blog here. We had great fun making up the little minifigure scenes to bring the back cover to life!

Spring Exhibitions

Brick Wonders is currently on display at The Novium Museum, Chichester. It’s running until 5th June; booking details can be found here. They are offering Relaxed SEN Sessions too, details can be found here.

And Brick History will be making an appearance at the Queensgate Shopping Centre for half-term, Saturday 12th - Sunday 20th February. There’s a trail booklet to complete and a selfie competition to enter too!

New installations at the Studio

We’re continuing our work to make the best Studio we can. in the last couple of months we have installed our solar panels and taken delivery of our new (well to us anyway) forklift truck.

We always intended to cover the roof with solar panels, but as with so many things, it got very delayed by the pandemic. However, they are finally here and are happily producing us some lovely green energy, even in our Scottish winter sunlight.

In the final week before the Christmas and New Year break, we all got trained on our new Forklift Truck. Continuing the tradition that every vehicle in our ‘fleet’ is named after a female LEGO character that suits their personality, we have named her Carol Danvers. Yay for kick-ass women who lift people up effortlessly!

And finally…

Brick Wonder opened at The Novium Museum in December and throughout the Festive Period and into January they ran a building competition for visitors who were inspired by our builds. This is one of the best bits of our job - see what people make given a bit of encouragement and a pile of bricks!

We’re really pleased to be able to share the winners of the competition with you:

We liked how it was instantly recognisable even though it’s built from just basic bricks.

It is a very hard shape to model in LEGO and we think he’s captured it really well.

We can see a lot of thought and planning has gone into the 18+ entry! Re-creating a wonder in such a small space takes some lateral though. We particularly loved the upside down plates for Machu Pichu!

Oliver Bow, 12. We’re impressed by the angle of the building – but also the scenes happening around the tower. Very Italian!
