Roads? Where we're going we don't need any - oh wait.....!

As we continue to add more buildings and scenery to Brick City - the backstage tour, we realised last week that we really did need some more roads. Specifically, roads that could fit between our houses and waterside. LEGO road plates are actually pretty large and not that pretty, so why not make them ourselves?

As we actually needed quite a few roads, I designed a section that we could easily replicate - made from mostly fairly easily obtainable bricks. A couple of people have asked for the design, so here you go!

Instructions are available as both a PDF and ldraw file. Just click on the word to download the relevant file. A couple of points to note though!

  • Firstly, anything that's Magenta - isn't. All that means is that you can use any colour you want for these bits. You can't see them in the finished model.

  • Secondly, I haven't actually checked if all the parts exist. They probably do, but bear in mind point 3

  • Thirdly, you can probably make the road using parts you already have instead of buying the exact parts I've used. I've used 2x16 plates for instance, but 2x8, 2x6, 2x12 etc etc plates would also work just as well.

  • Lastly, the red baseplate is where you put your modular building (or similar).

Have fun and PS - there's still another week left of the Backstage tour. Come visit!
