Moxy Hotel, Slough
Sometimes a building’s designs lend themselves really well to being replicated in LEGO bricks. The cladding on the new Moxy Hotel in Slough is just such a building. I say ‘new’ and I really mean it. It was so new it was being built at the same time as we were building our replica of it! We were asked by the construction company - Morgan Sindall - to create a LEGO version of the hotel as their gift to the hotel management.
We had great fun working out how to replicate the various cladding effects on the outside of the building. The pale blue and grey striped parts of it are actually built sideways to give the mottled effect in between the stacks of windows.
It’s always good to be able to include some site-specific details in a build like this.
We had fun setting out the accessible parking spaces in the central courtyard space as well as incorporating the hotel signage.
Creating the plant machinery on the roof was challenging as it there weren’t any pictures of it as it hadn’t been installed yet, so we designed our own version of the air conditions units and pipework.
Slough is not far from LEGOLAND Windsor, and I believe that the model is now on view in one of the publicly accessible parts of the hotel, so if you’re heading to the Park anytime soon you could pop in and see it.
As an extra nod to the local LEGO attraction Morgan Sindall asked us to create some fun signs for the toilets in the lobby!
