Awesome Bricks - cleared for take off!

The Warren Elsmore Team were busy towards the end of August with an event called Awesome Bricks at the Scottish Museum of flight at East Fortune Airfield near North Berwick. We were on hand all weekend to assist with lots of LEGO activities and to have some fun with bricks.

We also turned the Airfield's educational workshop into a LEGO Museum.  This display chronicled the history of the LEGO Company and showcased a lot of early, rare or very special LEGO Sets, in addition to some extremely rare collectors' items, and vintage wooden LEGO Toys.

In the main Concorde hangar we brought in 75,000 LEGO bricks to fill the Brick pit for free build LEGO fun for families, and we set up our racetrack feature right under the nose of Concorde!  Our professional racetrack feature lets budding vehicle designers could create vehicles from LEGO bricks and then test them on our race track.

Also in the Concorde hangar we had a fantastic display of LEGO trains which visitors could operate on the large railway layout, and a great Duplo build area in which our younger visitors could get creative too, so it really was a weekend of planes, trains and automobiles!

In Hangar 3 we had a selection of models on display from some local AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO).  These covered some great themes include Harry Potter, steampunk LEGO, Star Wars, as well as some great original models built by local fans.

Additional features included building competitions and a minifigure hunt.  The Museum staff carefully hid minifigures in lots of crazy places around the site, including a minifig in a Concorde toilet cubicle!  Last but not least, many visitors took the opportunity to participate in question and answer sessions with Warren in the main lecture theatre.

All in all it was a great success, and a whole lot of fun in a very packed weekend!
