Happy 10th Anniversary.... to us!

It’s that time of year when the office is full of cards and chocolates… as it’s nearly Christmas! Co-incidentally, we were having a clear out last week and look what we found…

What you are looking at is our first - ever - order. I’ve been asked many times when did this all start and my answer is usually “with the London 2012 Olympics”. But, there was a commercial commission earlier than that.

Back in 2008 (!) I was asked by LEGO UK to help with the production of a model for a TV miniseries that was being shot in Edinburgh. LEGO supplied the bricks and, with the massive help of the Scottish AFOLs, we built this model of St Stephens church in Edinburgh:

The brief was ‘a church that looks like an 8 yr old built it’, even though I did question the brick collection of said 8 year old ;-)

In the end, the model was built almost entirely from 2x4 bricks with the exception of the clock face and it did make it into the final cut of what was called Purves and Pekkala. Featuring Mark Gattiss and Max Bremer and also with Rose Leslie for her first ever role (now better known for Game of Thrones), the church actually played a key plot point in the story.

So yes, we know, we’re a little bit late in the year with the celebrations, but hey - it’s been 10 years of commercial LEGO building! Where did the time go?

Now, where’s the champagne…?
